The Vegetarian Question

Lately, the same child in me that lamented the idea of a buffalo burger has taken another look at the whole idea of eating meat.

Expectations, etc.

I’ve been in San Diego for just over five weeks now, and life is radically different than I thought it would be. I guess I had certain kinds of expectations.

Unemployment

I have worked since I was 15. I helped clean up a local roller hockey rink to play in a league before I was 16, and after that, I’ve worked at numerous fast food, retail, customer service, and office jobs. I’ve very rarely not had at least one job.

Is this goodbye, Boulder?

The last time I left Boulder, I knew I was coming back for school. Now I don’t have any other reason to come back besides the fact that I love this town. I appreciated it a lot more when I left it for a while, and it’ll be that way again.

Missing Sweden

I think about life in Sweden almost daily. If I had the opportunity — that is, the visa for a job and a job that can pay my bills — then I’d probably be back there in an instant. After all, part of the reason I pretty much abandoned my desire to go to law school was because I could see myself living in Sweden again.

A place for me

Lately I’ve been thinking about leaving.
Tonight was especially bad. I had a big blowup with the waiter boy (I thought this was over a while ago?!!), and to top it all off, I’m so stressed about money that I nursed a nosebleed for a good hour before I could go swing dancing. I really didn’t [...]

Where I Work, Pt. I: The Cube

Inspired by talk about workplaces on my last post, I came up another boring way to post content on my blog: I could show you where I work.
Some of you may know that I’m George Smith’s intern. (If you didn’t already, then you know now!) I get shoved, have to carry boxes when I should [...]

Dreaming of… shuffleboard?

On Saturday, I went to the Hi-Dive with Rande, David, Scott, Jessi and Amber to see Bishop Allen and Miniature Tigers play. It was a pretty kickin’ show to say the least. Afterwards, after seeing that Sputnik was too crammed, we went to the Skylark and played shuffleboard at Rande’s suggestion.
I had never played shuffleboard [...]

The Wrestler, “Choose Death,” and the Construction of Nostalgia

Swing Dance Class, Weeks 4-6

I must admit, I didn’t have all that much to write about swing dancing during the last half of the class.
Part of this is because I missed weeks 4 and 5 due to illness and prior commitments (like Ignite Boulder 3!). But during the last class, on week 6, I felt like I was able [...]
